As the Detroit Lions prepare for free agency, one of their top priorities should be re-signing a key defender who had a resurgent season in 2023.
The Lions’ defensive line was a major strength last season, and a significant contributor to that success was defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs. After a slow start to his career, Buggs emerged as a dominant force in the middle of the Lions’ defensive line, providing consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and helping to anchor the team’s run defense.
Re-signing Buggs would be a major coup for the Lions, as he is still relatively young and has significant upside. He is also a key part of the team’s defensive identity, and his loss would be difficult to replace.
In addition to Buggs, the Lions also have other free agent decisions to make on the defensive line, including the futures of defensive ends John Cominsky and Austin Bryant. However, re-signing Buggs should be the team’s top priority, as he is the most critical component of the Lions’ defensive line.
By re-signing Buggs, the Lions can maintain continuity and stability on their defensive line, while also providing a significant boost to their chances of success in 2024.
