The Detroit Lions have decided to give defensive end Marcus Davenport another shot after his first season with them was cut short by an elbow injury. The Lions re-signed him for one year, worth up to $4.75 million. Davenport, who had bounced around a bit since leaving the Saints, came to Detroit after a rough season with the Vikings. Unfortunately, his year with the Lions was brief, as he got hurt early on and only played three games.
Davenport has had a rocky career with injuries, missing a lot of games since being drafted. He showed potential in his early years with the Saints, even racking up a career-high 9 sacks in 2021. But after a disappointing final season in New Orleans, he was on a “prove-it” deal with the Vikings before ultimately landing in Detroit.
With the Lions’ defense plagued by injuries last season—most notably to star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson—the team is hoping Davenport can bounce back. The Lions have a good idea of where he stands physically, having had him rehab with their doctors all season. Davenport is now hoping to have a breakout season and prove his worth after all these setbacks.
