A Colossal Free Agency Risk is Staring the Lions in the Face

Lions Face a Huge Gamble in Free Agency with Joey Bosa
The Detroit Lions are on the hunt for another pass rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, but their latest rumored target comes with serious risks—Joey Bosa.

After the Chargers released Bosa, multiple reports have placed the Lions among the top suitors for the four-time Pro Bowler. On paper, it’s a great fit. When healthy, Bosa is a dominant force off the edge, capable of wrecking games.

But that’s the catch—staying healthy.

Is Bosa Worth the Risk?
Bosa has played 16 or more games in just three of his nine seasons, and in three separate years, he’s started fewer than 10 games. His talent isn’t in question, but his availability is a major red flag.

If the Lions make a move, they cannot overpay just for his name value. A heavily incentive-based deal—where he earns more for games played and performance—would be the only logical approach. Otherwise, Detroit risks paying premium money for a player who might barely see the field.

A high-risk, high-reward situation is staring the Lions in the face. How they handle it could impact their Super Bowl aspirations in 2025.
