Lions Can Steal the Show—and Packers’ Target—in Free Agency

Lions’ Free Agency Push: Could Josh Sweat Be the Missing Piece?
The wait is over—NFL free agency is officially here, and the Detroit Lions are on a mission to close the gap in the NFC. After falling just short of a Super Bowl appearance, the Lions know they need more firepower—especially in the pass rush.

They’ve already made two big moves, re-signing Marcus Davenport and cutting Za’Darius Smith, but they’re far from done. With Myles Garrett staying in Cleveland and Khalil Mack re-signing with the Chargers, the list of elite edge rushers is shrinking. However, one under-the-radar name could be a perfect fit in Detroit: Josh Sweat.

Why Sweat Makes Sense for the Lions
The Philadelphia Eagles might not be able to afford Sweat, who has racked up 25.5 sacks over the past three seasons. He’s a high-level pass rusher and a consistent force off the edge—exactly what Detroit needs opposite Aidan Hutchinson.

Pairing Sweat, Hutchinson, and a healthy Davenport would give the Lions one of the most dangerous defensive fronts in the NFC. Plus, signing him would be a gut punch to Packers fans, who are hoping Green Bay lands a top-tier pass rusher.

Will It Happen?
It’s possible—but far from a lock. The Bears are also rumored to be in the mix, and the Eagles could make a strong push to retain him. But if the Lions pull this off? The rest of the NFC North should be on high alert.
