Lions Set to Pursue 3 Players After Parting Ways with Za’Darius Smith

The Detroit Lions are expected to make significant moves in free agency after releasing Za’Darius Smith. With $52 million in cap space, they may opt for a cheaper, efficient EDGE rusher, possibly targeting players like Azeez Ojulari or Malcolm Koonce to add depth alongside Aidan Hutchinson.

While big-name free agents like Josh Sweat or Haason Reddick are appealing, Lions’ general manager Brad Holmes prefers to build through the draft, and Detroit may not be inclined to invest heavily in established players. This leaves the team with the potential for a balanced approach, bolstering their pass rush both through free agency and the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

With EDGE rusher as a key need, the Lions could use some of their resources to secure a strong, yet more cost-effective addition, rather than making a splash signing.
