5 Free-Agent Guards the Lions Could Target to Fill Zeitler’s Spot

Lions Lose Kevin Zeitler to Titans – Who Could Replace Him?

The Detroit Lions are officially in the market for a new starting guard. Kevin Zeitler, a key piece of last season’s offensive line, has signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Zeitler’s departure leaves a major hole to fill. He was Pro Football Focus’ third-highest-graded guard in 2024 and one of the league’s best run blockers. While Detroit still has Graham Glasgow and second-year lineman Christian Mahogany, adding another veteran or a high-upside draft pick seems likely.

If the Lions go the free-agent route, some intriguing options remain. Will Hernandez (Cardinals) and Shaq Mason (Texans) bring experience and solid production. Teven Jenkins (Bears) is younger and a strong scheme fit. Mekhi Becton (Eagles) could be a high-upside addition if he’s ready for a full-time guard role. Meanwhile, veteran Brandon Scherff (Jaguars) offers elite pass protection and leadership, though he’s on the older side.

Brad Holmes and the Lions’ front office will have decisions to make, but replacing Zeitler is now a priority.
