Eminem Joins Bid to Bring WNBA Team Back to Detroit
Detroit’s bid to bring a WNBA franchise back to the city just got a major boost—rapper Eminem has reportedly joined a high-profile investment group led by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores. The group also includes NBA legends Chris Webber and Grant Hill, as well as owners of the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, and Tigers.
The potential franchise would play at Little Caesars Arena, marking the return of a WNBA team to Detroit for the first time since the Shock relocated in 2009. With several cities competing for expansion teams, the WNBA could add as many as three new franchises in the coming years. Detroit is up against strong bids from cities like San Francisco, Toronto, and Philadelphia.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed excitement over the effort, emphasizing the state’s commitment to women’s sports. Now, Detroit waits to see if the WNBA will bring pro women’s basketball back to the Motor City.
