Ex-Lions CB Carlton Davis Opens Up About His Departure

Carlton Davis Explains Why He Left Detroit for New England
After a strong season with the Detroit Lions, cornerback Carlton Davis III has officially moved on, signing a three-year, $60 million deal with the New England Patriots. Speaking with reporters at his introductory press conference, Davis explained that feeling like a “priority” and the opportunity to help rebuild a historic franchise played a major role in his decision.

“Legacy was big for me in Detroit. I had a good run with them,” Davis said. “But ultimately, I wanted to be somewhere I felt like a priority, where I could build something and be a leader.”

Davis made it clear that he still respects what the Lions are building, but the appeal of working with new Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and defensive coordinator Terrell Williams was too strong to pass up. He acknowledges that New England is in a rebuild but believes the pieces are in place for something special.

Detroit will now look to reshape its secondary without Davis, while the Patriots hope his leadership helps spark a turnaround.
