DeMarcus Lawrence Joins Seahawks, Takes Subtle Jab at Cowboys
After over a decade with the Dallas Cowboys, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is turning the page on a new chapter—this time in Seahawks blue and green.
Lawrence, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, has signed a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, becoming one of the team’s most significant free agent acquisitions this offseason, second only to quarterback Sam Darnold. The Seahawks also brought in wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, adding more veteran firepower to the roster.
All three new additions—Lawrence, Darnold, and Valdes-Scantling—were present at team headquarters in Renton on Thursday and made themselves available to the media in varying capacities. But it was Lawrence who delivered the most buzzworthy soundbite of the day.
During an interview with Brian Nemhauser, better known as “Hawkblogger,” Lawrence was asked about the contrast between his new environment in Seattle and his long tenure in Dallas.
“The main difference, as you can see, is it’s cold,” Lawrence joked. “I got to keep my jacket on up here. But I definitely love the atmosphere. Change of scenery is always good.”
But the quote that really turned heads came next.
“Dallas is my home,” Lawrence said. “I made my home there, my family lives there. I’m forever gonna be there. But I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there.”
That last line struck a nerve—not just because it was candid, but because it came from someone who spent 11 seasons battling for a title in Dallas, only to fall short each time. Despite being part of six playoff teams, Lawrence and the Cowboys never advanced past the Divisional Round during his time there.
Some might scoff at the idea that Seattle provides a better shot at a Super Bowl. And sure, the snarky replies are inevitable. But it’s hard not to appreciate the raw honesty and quiet confidence behind Lawrence’s words.
Seattle has long been a franchise that values grit and a bit of swagger—and it seems Lawrence fits right in. Whether or not his prediction comes true, one thing’s certain: he’s arriving with hunger, experience, and something to prove.
Welcome to Seattle, DeMarcus!
