The Pittsburgh Steelers are losing quarterback Kyle Allen to the Detroit Lions. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafol, Allen has signed a contract with the Lions.
Allen spent the 2024 season as the Steelers’ backup quarterback, serving as the No. 2 for the first six weeks while Russell Wilson was out with a calf injury. He appeared in one game, briefly replacing Justin Fields, and completed his only pass for 19 yards to tight end Pat Freikermuth.
The Steelers’ quarterback room underwent changes recently, with the team trading for Mason Rudolph. This move led to Allen’s departure, as he sought more opportunities elsewhere.
The terms of Allen’s deal with the Lions have not been disclosed. However, this signing adds experience to the Lions’ quarterback room, with Allen bringing 19 starts and six seasons of NFL experience.
Allen’s addition provides depth and stability to the Lions’ quarterback position. He will likely serve as a backup and mentor to the team’s younger quarterbacks.
The Steelers, meanwhile, will move forward with their restructured quarterback room. Rudolph’s arrival and Allen’s departure signal a new direction for the team’s quarterback position.
