Lions Add Veteran QB Kyle Allen, Adding Depth Behind Goff
The Detroit Lions are bringing in veteran quarterback Kyle Allen, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. While contract details haven’t been disclosed, Allen’s experience should add stability to the Lions’ quarterback room behind Jared Goff.
Allen, 29, has played for five teams since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He’s appeared in 31 games, starting 19, with 4,753 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. Most recently, he served as the Steelers’ third-string quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
His arrival could shake up the competition for the backup role, where 2023 third-round pick Hendon Hooker has been developing. After missing most of his rookie season, Hooker looked rusty in 2024 training camp, and the Lions may view Allen as a more reliable option. With Jake Fromm also in the mix, Detroit’s quarterback depth just got a little more interesting.
