Detroit Lions Veteran Admits He’s Devastated by Teammate’s Sudden Departure

Lions Cut Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Alex Anzalone Reacts with Heartfelt Message
The Detroit Lions have made another tough roster decision this offseason, releasing veteran linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin. The move saves the team $2 million in cap space, but it’s already hitting some players hard—especially linebacker Alex Anzalone, who reacted with a broken heart emoji on social media.

Reeves-Maybin spent seven of his eight NFL seasons in Detroit, making a name for himself as a standout special teams player. He earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2023 but was limited to just 10 games last season due to a neck injury. Despite his reduced role, he remained a respected leader in the locker room.

The 29-year-old originally signed a two-year, $7.5 million deal with the Lions last offseason after returning from a short stint with the Houston Texans. Now, Detroit moves forward without one of its key special teams aces, while players like Anzalone feel the sting of losing a longtime teammate.
