Detroit Lions Set to Sign Veteran Quarterback Kyle Allen to Strengthen Depth

Lions Add Veteran QB Kyle Allen to Strengthen Depth Chart
The Detroit Lions are bringing in a veteran presence for their quarterback room, agreeing to terms with Kyle Allen. The 29-year-old signal-caller has spent time with five teams since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, most recently serving as Pittsburgh’s third-string QB.

Allen’s most extensive playing time came in 2019 with Carolina, where he started 12 games and threw for 3,322 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Since then, he has made six additional starts between Washington and Houston.

In Detroit, Allen will compete with Hendon Hooker and Jake Fromm for the backup role behind Jared Goff. Hooker, a 2023 third-round pick, saw limited action last season, while Fromm has not played a regular-season snap since 2021. The Lions value experience in their QB room, and Allen’s presence could provide additional security as the team continues to solidify its roster.
