Hooker’s Stock Rising: Why Lions Are Keeping Him

The Detroit Lions’ decision to sign quarterback Kyle Allen has sparked speculation about Hendon Hooker’s future with the team. However, it’s unlikely that the Lions are moving on from Hooker just yet.

Hooker, a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been developing as a backup quarterback behind Jared Goff. Despite Goff’s Pro Bowl-level performance, Hooker’s potential as a long-term option is still valued by the team.

In fact, former All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison believes Hooker has tremendous upside, praising his progress under Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and his experience learning from Goff.

While there have been rumors about the Lions potentially trading Hooker, nothing has been confirmed. It’s possible that the team may explore trade options, but for now, Hooker remains a part of the Lions’ plans.

Coach Dan Campbell has expressed his belief in Hooker’s potential, stating that the young quarterback needs reps and time to develop. The team’s decision to release veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld last season also suggests that they’re comfortable with Hooker as their backup quarterback.
