Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer Talks Young Wide Receivers

Alabama football was back in action on Tuesday after a break, diving into spring practice with just under a dozen sessions left before the big A-Day showcase on April 12. One of the big question marks for the team heading into the 2025 season? The wide receiver group.

The Tide lost several receivers in the offseason, leaving them with a mix of proven talent and untested players. Leading the way are sophomore Ryan Williams and senior Germie Bernard, but beyond them, it’s all about potential. Alabama brought in two new receivers for the 2025 class—5-foot-9 Lotzier Brooks from New Jersey and 6-foot-5 Derek Meadows from Nevada.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer had some high praise for both freshmen.

“Derek stands out right away with his size—he’s long, he’s got presence,” DeBoer said. “Some tall guys don’t know how to use their body, but he does. Saw him in a one-on-one today, and he really used that wingspan to go up and get the ball.”

As for Brooks, DeBoer raved about his explosiveness and ability to track down deep balls. “Lotzier just has that extra burst. Those passes that are just out of reach? He finds a way to haul them in. He’s got some instincts you can’t teach.”

DeBoer also gave a shoutout
