Opening Day for the Mets is always full of surprises, and this year is no exception. Fans are used to the unexpected, and even with all the predictions in place, the team’s lineup is taking some surprising turns. When the Mets signed Clay Holmes as a starter back in December, no one thought he’d be the one on the mound for Opening Day, but here we are. With some key injuries and stand-out performances this spring, Mets GM David Stearns seems ready to keep the surprises coming. Here are three things we might see on March 27th.

1) Where’s Brandon Nimmo?

After dealing with plantar fasciitis in 2024, Brandon Nimmo was set to kick off the 2025 season in top form. But just when things were looking good, a knee flare-up during spring training threw a wrench in the plans, and now his spot in left field is up in the air. With Nimmo’s future uncertain, Stearns has started to shuffle the deck.

In his recent spring games, Nimmo has been used as a DH, which helps keep his bat in play while giving his knee some rest. If Nimmo’s knee doesn’t hold up in time for Opening Day, veteran Jesse Winker is a solid backup. He played 70 games in left field last season for both the Nationals and Mets, and he’s been hitting well this spring, posting a .296 average, a .424 OBP, and
