Lions Continue Secondary Overhaul, Sign Veteran CB Rock Ya-Sin
The Detroit Lions are adding another experienced piece to their secondary, agreeing to terms with former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Rock Ya-Sin. The veteran defender, who spent last season primarily on special teams, will now compete for a role in Detroit’s evolving cornerback unit.
Ya-Sin, 28, joins a Lions defense that has already made major moves this offseason, including signing DJ Reed to a three-year, $48 million deal. With former starter Carlton Davis heading to New England, the team is looking for more depth behind projected starters Reed, Amik Robertson, and 2024 first-round pick Terrion Arnold. Second-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. also figures into the mix after dealing with injuries last season.
Originally drafted by the Colts in 2019, Ya-Sin has played for four teams in his six-year career, recording 199 tackles, two interceptions, and 41 passes defended. Now, he’ll look to carve out a role in a Detroit defense that continues to build under new leadership following the departure of Aaron Glenn.
