Giants Respond to Russell Wilson Buzz With Big QB Move

The New York Giants had a rough 2024 season, and their quarterback situation was a mess. Daniel Jones didn’t pan out, so they cut him mid-season. Backups Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock got their shot, but neither proved to be the answer.

Now, with free agency in full swing, the Giants are on the hunt for their next QB. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Pittsburgh Steelers veteran Russell Wilson is becoming a “more viable option” for New York—possibly even more than Aaron Rodgers.

While they wait on Wilson or Rodgers, the Giants made a move, signing former Browns QB Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal. Winston, a former No. 1 overall pick, started his career in Tampa Bay before losing his job to Tom Brady. He then spent four seasons in New Orleans before joining the Browns in 2024. Last season, he played 12 games, throwing for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The Giants also re-signed DeVito on a one-year deal but aren’t done making moves. They reportedly have a “standing offer” for Rodgers, but he’s in no rush to decide. That could also slow down Wilson’s future plans, as both QBs remain on New York’s radar.

Stay tuned—things are about to get interesting in the Giants’ QB room.
