The New York Giants are gearing up for a quarterback shakeup with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. If everything falls into place, they could end up with one of the top QB prospects—either Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
To add some experience to their QB room, the Giants just signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal. While he’s likely a backup, he provides a safety net in case the rookie isn’t ready to start immediately.
Round 1, Pick 3: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
All signs point to New York grabbing a quarterback, and for months, Sanders has been the most likely choice. Giants GM Joe Schoen is staking his job on this pick, and Sanders has the skills to deliver. He’s accurate, poised, and knows how to handle the spotlight—essential for leading a team in a big market like New York.
The Giants have kept their receiving core intact with Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson, while also beefing up their offensive line. Even if Sanders doesn’t start immediately (thanks to Winston’s presence), he’ll likely see the field in Year 1.
Round 2, Pick 34: Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State
This pick might not be the most seamless fit scheme-wise, but Thomas brings physicality and excels in press-man coverage. While the Giants’ defense under coordinator Shane Bowen leans more toward zone schemes, Thomas’ ability to match up against top receivers makes him a valuable asset.
With Thomas in the mix, Deonte Banks could take a step back while the defense gains flexibility. Though some question his athleticism, Thomas was one of the best defensive backs in college football in 2024. If he can maintain that level in the NFL, he could be a game-changer for the Giants’ secondary.
This draft could shape the future of the Giants, and if things pan out, they might finally have their long-term answer at quarterback.
