Rodgers’ Holdout Hopes Crushed as Russell Wilson Seals the Deal

The New York Giants just made a major quarterback move, and Aaron Rodgers is officially out of the equation.

After bringing in Jameis Winston on a two-year deal, the Giants weren’t done. They’ve now locked in Russell Wilson on a one-year contract worth up to $21 million, with $10.5 million guaranteed. That’s according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wilson, who spent last season in Pittsburgh, had options—including staying with the Steelers or heading to the Browns—but he chose Big Blue instead.

With Wilson, Winston, and Tommy DeVito all in the mix, the Giants’ QB room just went from empty to overflowing in no time. Oh, and let’s not forget they still have the No. 3 pick in the draft.

Aaron Rodgers Waiting Game? Over.

For months, there was speculation about whether the Giants were hoping for a shot at Aaron Rodgers if things didn’t work out with the Jets. But New York clearly got tired of waiting around for Rodgers to decide if he even wants to keep playing. Instead of rolling the dice, they made their move.

Head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen aren’t here for long-term rebuilds—they want to win now. Wilson, a former Super Bowl champ, threw for 2,400+ yards, 16 TDs, and just 5 interceptions last season. While he might not be the same guy who lit up Seattle for a decade, he’s still a serious upgrade.

And don’t forget, the Giants still have the No. 3 pick. That means they can grab a top QB prospect—like Shedeur Sanders—and actually give him time to develop behind Wilson.

Wilson already has a history at MetLife Stadium, where he won a Super Bowl in 2014. Now, he’s back—this time, to try and rewrite the ending of his career on his own terms.

As for Rodgers? Well, the Giants aren’t waiting around to see what he does next. They’ve already moved on.
