NFC North Free Agency: Bears, Lions, Vikings Make Moves While Packers Wait

NFC North Free Agency Recap: Lions, Bears, and Vikings Make Big Moves While Packers Stay Quiet
The NFC North was the NFL’s most competitive division in 2024, and teams aren’t slowing down in free agency. The Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings have made key signings to strengthen their rosters, while the Green Bay Packers are taking a more patient approach.

Bears Go All-In on Offense
Chicago made the biggest splash, hiring Ben Johnson as head coach and revamping the offensive line to protect second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears traded for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson while signing center Drew Dalman. On defense, they added veteran DT Grady Jarrett to bolster the front line.

Lions Shore Up the Secondary
After a 15-2 season, the Lions focused on improving their pass defense, signing CB D.J. Reed from the Jets. Detroit also retained key defenders Derrick Barnes, Levi Onwuzurike, and Marcus Davenport, keeping the core of their defense intact.

Vikings Reinforce the Trenches
Minnesota prioritized offensive line upgrades, signing Will Fries and Ryan Kelly from the Colts. They also secured running backs Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason, giving J.J. McCarthy a strong ground game.

Packers Stay Conservative
Green Bay’s only major signings were guard Aaron Banks and CB Nate Hobbs. With eight draft picks, the Packers may be waiting to make their biggest moves in April.

As the offseason continues, the NFC North is shaping up to be another fierce battleground in 2025.
