A former Crimson Tide player might be making his way back to Tuscaloosa.

Rylan Griffen, who transferred from Alabama to Kansas last season, has entered the Transfer Portal again after a rough year with the Jayhawks. This has sparked rumors that he could reunite with Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide for his final season.

Griffen spent two years at Alabama before heading to Kansas, where his numbers took a dip. At Alabama in 2023-24, he averaged 11.2 points per game while shooting 45% from the field. At Kansas, those numbers fell to 6.3 points per game and 37% shooting. It’s clear he struggled to fit into Bill Self’s system, and now he’s looking for a fresh start.

Alabama could be an ideal landing spot. Griffen already knows Oats’ system and is a solid 3-and-D wing—exactly the kind of player Alabama needs. At 6-foot-6, he brings length and versatility, which could be key as Oats aims to build an elite defensive team next season.

Alabama’s Roster Puzzle

Bringing Griffen back won’t be as simple as just offering him a spot. Right now, Alabama has only one available scholarship. With four seniors leaving and three incoming recruits, the team currently sits at 12 scholarship players, leaving room for just one addition—unless more players depart.

One key player to watch is freshman guard Labaron Philon, who might test the NBA Draft waters. Other players, such as Jarin Stevenson, Aiden Sherrell, Derrion Reid, and Aden Holloway, could also declare for the draft to get feedback from scouts before deciding their next move.

With the NBA Draft entry deadline set for April 26 and the withdrawal deadline on June 15, Alabama’s roster situation could shift in the coming weeks. Expect some news soon as players start making their decisions.
