Aaron Rodgers’ Next Move? The Vikings Might Hold the Key
We’re well into NFL free agency, and Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t made a decision about his future. The New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Minnesota Vikings have all been linked to him, but according to The Athletic, the Vikings are reportedly his top choice.
There’s just one problem—Minnesota seems ready to roll with J.J. McCarthy as their starting QB. McCarthy missed his entire rookie season due to a meniscus injury, but the Vikings appear committed to giving him the job.
Could a Backup QB Signaling Rodgers’ Fate?
According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Vikings’ next move could tell us everything we need to know. If they sign a veteran backup like Carson Wentz, it likely means they’re out on Rodgers.
“The real sign to watch for is whether the Vikings go after Wentz or another experienced backup for McCarthy,” Robinson wrote. “If they don’t, Rodgers’ name will keep floating around Minnesota’s franchise until he either retires or signs elsewhere. And right now, nobody seems to think that decision is coming anytime soon.”
Steelers & Giants Still in the Mix
Meanwhile, the Steelers and Giants are still eyeing Rodgers as their top option, but they’re waiting to see what Minnesota does first. If the Vikings pass, expect those teams to make a move.
Rodgers put up solid numbers last season with the New York Jets—3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns—but his time in New York was a letdown. Despite all the Super Bowl hype, the Jets won just 12 games over two seasons and missed the playoffs both years.
For now, all eyes are on Minnesota. If they make a move for a veteran QB, Rodgers might have to look elsewhere. If not, this saga could drag on even longer. Stay tuned.
