Abdul Carter Says He’s the Best in the Draft But Will He Go No. 1?
Abdul Carter is making his case loud and clear—he thinks he should be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. On Monday, the Penn State defensive star took to social media to remind everyone that he’s the guy, regardless of all the quarterback hype.
“Don’t let all this QB need talk fool y’all,” Carter posted. “It’s already known who’s the best, and no QB is in that discussion! Like I said, the best player goes number 1.”
It’s a bold statement, but does he actually have a shot at the top spot?
The Titans Need a QB Badly
The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick, and while Carter is one of the best defensive players available, the Titans are in desperate need of a quarterback. They just lost Mason Rudolph to the Steelers, but let’s be real they didn’t exactly fight to keep him. Their current QB, Will Levis, hasn’t panned out, which is why they ended up with the first pick in the first place.
Tennessee didn’t make a move for veteran QBs like Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers, and they don’t seem to be in on Russell Wilson either. That means all signs are pointing to them taking a quarterback likely Washington State’s Cam Ward.
Is Carter Even in the Conversation?
Could the Titans be bluffing? Maybe. NFL teams love to keep their draft plans under wraps. But so far, their offseason moves suggest they’re focusing on fixing their offense. They’ve strengthened their O-line with veterans like Dan Moore and Kevin Zeitler and picked up backup QB Brandon Allen, who already knows head coach Brian Callahan’s system.
Meanwhile, Carter and Colorado’s Travis Hunter are widely considered the best overall players in the draft, but as we all know, the NFL runs on quarterbacks. And the Titans haven’t had a good one in years.
The Bottom Line
Carter has every right to believe he’s the best player in this draft his college stats and game tape back that up. But unless the Titans pull a major surprise, it looks like they’ll be taking a QB, not a defensive star.
Still, anything can happen on draft night. We’ll see if Carter’s confidence pays off.
