Aidan Hutchinson on Potential Myles Garrett-Lions Partnership: ‘That Would Be Deadly’
Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson isn’t holding back when it comes to imagining a dream scenario: lining up alongside Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett in Honolulu Blue and Silver.
During a recent episode of The Squeeze podcast—hosted by Twilight actor and passionate Lions fan Taylor Lautner and his wife, Tay—Hutchinson shared details about a conversation he had with Garrett and Lions quarterback Jared Goff. The chat took place a few weeks ago at the NFL Honors show in New Orleans.
“If me and Myles were to pair up, that would be deadly, you know?” Hutchinson said. “I was talking to him, we were at the Honors, and we were just talking about what could be. And although it’s probably unlikely, I think I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen. But, yeah, our whole D-line would be, like, totally elevated, and we would—whew—that’d be a scary defensive line.”
Hutchinson didn’t stop there. He highlighted the relationship he’s built with Garrett, adding, “We get along, too. I’ve seen him these last few years at different things. He texted me after I got hurt, which was just a cool thing. Guys outside of your own team who reach out to you—so I think he’s a good dude. If he does (come), great, but I don’t know. We’ll see. But that would be awesome.”
Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, recently made headlines by publicly requesting a trade from the Browns, citing his “desire to win” at this stage in his career. Despite his wishes, Cleveland quickly reaffirmed their commitment to keeping the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, making it clear they have no plans to trade him.
Still, the idea of Garrett joining the Lions has caught the imagination of fans—and players—alike. Shortly after the trade request news broke, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown voiced his excitement on his podcast about what Garrett’s arrival could mean for Detroit’s defense.
“Him and Aidan (Hutchinson) and Alim (McNeill), D.J. (Reader) and all of our D-line? Bro!” St. Brown said with enthusiasm. “I swear, if you have a D-line that’s nasty, you don’t need any corners. You don’t need anything. Just play it off.”
Since being drafted in 2017, Garrett has consistently dominated opposing offenses, averaging at least 12.8 sacks per season and never dipping below double-digit sacks after his rookie year.
While the chances of Garrett wearing a Lions uniform may be slim, the thought of him teaming up with Hutchinson remains an exciting “what if” for Detroit fans.
