Aidan Hutchinson Shares Realistic View on Lions Trading for Myles Garrett

Aidan Hutchinson Weighs in on Potential Myles Garrett Trade to Lions

The prospect of pairing Myles Garrett with Aidan Hutchinson on the Detroit Lions’ defensive line has sparked excitement, but Hutchinson remains grounded about the likelihood of such a trade. Since Garrett’s trade request from the Cleveland Browns went public, the Lions have often been mentioned as a potential destination. However, Hutchinson isn’t sold on the idea.

Asked by Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett about the possibility of joining forces with Garrett, Hutchinson expressed skepticism. “You can’t have that many dudes on one D-line,” he said. “I think it’s very unlikely.” While Hutchinson admitted the idea is intriguing, he noted the complexities surrounding a trade like that.

The financial and roster-building factors make a Garrett trade highly improbable. Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, would not come cheap—likely requiring multiple high draft picks and a contract extension. Additionally, with key defensive players like Hutchinson and Alim McNeill up for new contracts, adding another massive salary to the defensive line seems unsustainable for the Lions.

Despite his reservations, Hutchinson acknowledged that it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, emphasizing that the Lions’ front office operates with flexibility. “Never say never,” he added.

While Hutchinson may not expect a trade, the buzz around the idea, especially following a Super Bowl week encounter with Garrett, shows that Lions fans are still holding out hope. However, with the substantial investment required for Garrett, a deal is unlikely unless the Lions can find a way to make it fit within their long-term plans.
