Aidan Hutchinson Fires Back: Lions Will Be Just Fine Without Johnson and Glenn
The Detroit Lions are heading into 2025 with a revamped coaching staff, but Aidan Hutchinson isn’t sweating it one bit. While some NFL analysts are questioning whether the team will take a step back after losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Jets and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the Bears, Hutchinson made it clear—coaches don’t win games, players do.
During a recent appearance on The Lautners podcast, Hutchinson shrugged off concerns about the Lions’ future, emphasizing that Detroit’s success isn’t tied to its coordinators. “I don’t care who they bring in to coach us. Obviously, keeping Dan [Campbell] is what we all want, but coordinators, position coaches—it doesn’t matter,” Hutchinson said. “At the end of the day, it’s the playmakers who are making those plays on Sundays.”
That’s a bold take, especially considering how crucial Johnson and Glenn were to Detroit’s rise from NFL basement dweller to a 15-2 powerhouse. But Hutchinson isn’t buying into the idea that their departures spell trouble. He believes the team’s core players—the same ones who made this franchise a contender—will keep Detroit in the hunt for a championship, regardless of who’s calling plays.
It’s safe to say Bears and Jets fans hope Hutchinson is wrong, considering their teams just handed Glenn and Johnson head coaching gigs. Time will tell if the Lions can keep rolling, but if you ask Hutchinson, there’s no doubt.
