Alabama’s baseball team had a rough weekend at Auburn, but they managed to pull out a win in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. After getting blown out 10-0 on Friday, the Crimson Tide bounced back with a 6-5 win in Game 1 Saturday, thanks to a clutch ninth-inning homer from Justin Lebron.
Starting pitching was a major issue all weekend — none of Alabama’s starters made it to the fifth inning in any of the three games, and two didn’t even make it out of the second.
Lebron’s homer gave Alabama its first win of the weekend, saving them from a sweep. Will Hodo also came through with a big RBI single, and Riley Quick gave the Tide four innings — the longest outing by any starter in the series.
But the momentum didn’t last. In Game 2 of the doubleheader, Alabama fell behind early after starter Bobby Alcock gave up four runs and only recorded one out. Garrett Staton tried to spark a comeback with a three-run homer, and Jason Torres added a two-RBI single later, but Auburn held on for the 7-5 win.
Auburn’s hitters came through in key moments all weekend, especially leadoff batters — eight of the first nine reached base in the series. Alabama also made some costly mistakes on defense and left potential runs on the board.
Head coach Rob Vaughn praised his team’s toughness but said they need to start games better, both pitching and hitting.
