Alabama Baseball Rallies to Take Series Over Georgia After Rough Start

Alabama baseball had a rough start against Georgia, getting crushed 19-3 in the first game of the series. But they bounced back in a big way, winning the next two games on Sunday and grabbing an important series win—especially with hopes of hosting a Regional still alive.

Bad weather all weekend in Tuscaloosa pushed the second game into Sunday, but Alabama managed to hold on to a 6-2 lead and finished with a 9-3 win. Riley Quick pitched over four solid innings, and the bullpen—especially Braylon Myers and Carson Ozmer—shut things down from there. Ozmer took care of the last two innings to keep Georgia from coming back. On offense, Justin Lebron, Bryce Fowler, and Richie Bonomolo Jr. each hit a home run.

Game three was shortened to seven innings because of travel plans, but there was still a 20-minute delay—one of many over the wet weekend. With a lot riding on the game, Alabama stepped up again. Zane Adams pitched four innings, gave up two runs, and struck out eight.

The Tide jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, with an RBI single from Will Hodo and back-to-back homers by Jason Torres and Kade Snell. Georgia tried to fight back, trimming the lead to 4-2 with a homer of their own, but Justin Lebron answered with an RBI double in the fifth. Georgia wasn’t done, though—a two-run homer in the sixth made it a one-run game.

With the pressure on, coach Rob Vaughn brought in Carson Ozmer again, even though he’d already pitched earlier. He just needed to get two outs—and he did, getting a ground out and a strikeout to seal the win.

With this series win, Alabama improved to 39-13 overall and 15-12 in SEC play as they head into the final series of the regular season.
