Alabama Commit Jamarion Matthews Shuts Down Recruitment, Eyes Dynamic Duo with Xavier Griffin

Alabama commit Jamarion Matthews made it official this weekend: he’s all in with the Crimson Tide. The talented prospect, who transferred to Gainesville (Ga.) High School for his senior year, announced on social media that he’s shutting down his recruitment. In an emotional post, Matthews thanked his mother and said he’s staying home with Alabama, the school he committed to back in February.

Just a day after making his decision public, Matthews was front and center for the commitment ceremony of his longtime friend, five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin. The two Alabama natives have dreamed of playing together, and now they’ll get to team up in Tuscaloosa. Matthews told Bama247 he’s thrilled to continue his journey with Griffin, calling the chance to play together at Alabama “exciting.”

Meanwhile, Alabama is riding a hot recruiting streak. The Tide jumped from outside the top 50 to No. 8 in the national rankings after adding seven commitments in a single week, including Griffin. The surge has Alabama poised to continue its momentum, with several top prospects expected to announce decisions soon.

This week, Alabama and other powerhouses like Texas, LSU, and Notre Dame are in the mix for commitments from 13 Top247 recruits, including six uncommitted five-star players. Notable names include wide receiver Cederian Morgan, who announces Wednesday, and offensive tackle Felix Ojo, who commits Friday.

Alabama fans should keep an eye on these announcements, as the Crimson Tide looks to keep building one of the nation’s top 2026 recruiting classes.
