Alabama Gymnastics has just added a major talent to its roster! Turkish gymnast Derin Tanriyasükür, who snagged a bronze medal at the 2020 European Championships, is joining the team. This makes her the fourth member of the incoming freshman class, which already includes Azaraya Ra-Akbar, Jasmine Cawley, and McKenzie Matters.

Tanriyasükür, who’s 5’5” and a versatile all-around gymnast, made history by becoming the first Turkish female gymnast to win a medal at the European Championships, clinching third place on the uneven bars. Her impressive resume includes a silver medal at the 2024 National Championships and a bronze at the 2023 National Championships in the all-around.

Alabama’s head coach, Ashley Johnston, is pumped to bring Tanriyasükür on board. She praised her passion for the sport, resilient mindset, and her international experience. Coach Johnston also highlighted Tanriyasükür’s team-first attitude, which fits perfectly with Alabama’s culture.
