Five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds, Alabama’s top-ranked 2026 commit and the No. 1 cornerback in the country, made his Crimson Tide allegiance crystal clear this weekend. Edmonds wrapped up his Sunday training session early to attend the highly anticipated commitment announcement of five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, who also chose Alabama.
With Griffin’s addition, the Crimson Tide now boasts pledges from Georgia’s top two prospects and two of the nation’s top 32 players for the 2026 class. Edmonds, who’s been committed to Alabama since March, donned his Alabama bucket hat with a big smile as he welcomed Griffin to the fold.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Edmonds visited Tuscaloosa twice in June, including an official visit alongside Griffin from June 6-8. He hasn’t taken visits anywhere else, a clear sign of his unwavering commitment. Speaking to Bama247, Edmonds explained he sees no need to explore other programs because of his comfort level with Alabama.
Three Key Questions for Alabama’s Defensive Back Future
Looking beyond the 2025 season, Alabama faces pivotal decisions in its secondary. First, safety Keon Sabb, who transferred from Michigan, impressed with two interceptions in his Alabama debut. If healthy, he could leave early for the 2026 NFL Draft. Fellow safety Bray Hubbard, who stepped up during Sabb’s injury last year, could also enter the draft if he builds on his momentum. Their choices will directly impact younger talents like sophomore Zavier Mincey and freshman Ivan Taylor, who could step into starting roles depending on vacancies.
Alabama’s Recruiting Class Climbs Ahead of Key July Commitments
With official visits in June wrapped up, July is shaping up to be a critical month for the 2026 recruiting class. Twelve Top247 recruits, including six five-stars, are set to announce their commitments this week. Georgia made a big move last month by adding nine four-star players, jumping into the top five. Meanwhile, Alabama secured three top-100 recruits, headlined by Xavier Griffin, and currently sits just inside the top 10 — but poised to rise.
Ohio State looks to secure a seventh straight top-five class, USC aims for its first top-five finish since 2018, and Miami hopes to top the ACC rankings for a fourth consecutive year.
