Alex Anzalone Shares Frustration Over Stalled Contract, But Remains Dedicated to Lions

Entering the final year of his three-year deal—worth $6 million for 2025—four-time captain Alex Anzalone openly admitted he’s “disappointed” by the pace of contract discussions  . He pointed to his consistent performance and the booming linebacker market—highlighted by notable deals—saying, “It’s just kind of obvious … production, play, the market”  .

Despite the behind‑the‑scenes tension, Anzalone chose to report to training camp on time and passed his conditioning test. He’s currently sidelined only by a hamstring injury—not holding out in protest  . He affirmed his loyalty, adding, “I want to retire a Lion”  .

Coach Dan Campbell respected Anzalone’s decision to be present: “He’s here, reported, did great on the conditioning test … ready to go”  . Meanwhile, some NFL analysts suggest this may be a subtle “old‑school hold‑in” strategy—using a minor injury as leverage without skipping camp entirely  .

With Anzalone expected to return once his hamstring heals, both sides seem motivated to reach an amicable new deal before camp progresses further. Regardless of the outcome, the linebacker insists his commitment to Detroit hasn’t wavered.
