Alim McNeill Named Top DT in NFC North Despite Injury Setback

The Lions may have lost some veteran pieces on defense, but one name that keeps earning respect across the division is Alim McNeill. The former third-round pick out of NC State has officially been voted the top defensive tackle in the NFC North — and it’s well deserved.

McNeill made serious strides last season, transforming both his body and his game to become one of the most disruptive forces up front. He’s not just a run-stopper anymore — he’s developed into a versatile lineman who can push the pocket and make plays all over the field. That growth earned him a massive four-year, $97 million contract and a place among the Lions’ defensive core.

While he’s still recovering from a torn ACL and expected to miss the start of the 2025 season, his spot atop the All-NFC North rankings proves just how much respect he commands around the league.

Detroit’s own DJ Reader also made the list, finishing just behind Green Bay’s Kenny Clark and Chicago’s rising talent Gervon Dexter. But it’s McNeill who leads the pack, showing that when healthy, he’s the heartbeat of Detroit’s defensive line.

Once he’s back on the field, expect even more dominance from No. 54.
