Amon-Ra St. Brown Predicts Breakout Year for Sam LaPorta

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for what they hope will be another deep playoff run in 2025. After a dominant 2024 regular season, the team is looking to bounce back from a disappointing playoff exit at the hands of the Washington Commanders. Despite some major offseason changes—including the loss of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn—there’s still a lot of optimism around this squad.

One of the team’s biggest stars, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, recently shared who he’s keeping an eye on this offseason. And no, it’s not one of the usual suspects.

“A guy that I’m excited for is Sam LaPorta,” St. Brown said, according to Sports Illustrated’s John Maakaron. “Not taking anything away from what he did last year, he’s a baller, but I can tell this year, he’s making plays out there every day. He’s gonna have a big year.”

LaPorta exploded onto the scene as a rookie tight end and quickly became a reliable weapon for Jared Goff. But his production took a step back in Year 2, likely due to the emergence of Jameson Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs stealing a bit of the spotlight.

Still, St. Brown’s comments suggest that LaPorta is turning heads again at OTAs and could be primed for a strong bounce-back campaign. If he can carve out a consistent role in Detroit’s high-powered offense, the Lions might have yet another star on their hands.
