Are the Giants Bold Enough to Unleash Travis Hunter?

Could the Giants Be the Only Team Bold Enough to Take a Chance on Travis Hunter?

With the NFL Draft just around the corner, the New York Giants still haven’t given a clear indication of what they plan to do with the No. 3 overall pick. They already signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal and then doubled down by bringing in Russell Wilson on a one-year contract. But what’s next?

The big question: Will the Giants go all-in on a quarterback, possibly Shedeur Sanders? Or could they take a completely different approach and grab one of the most electrifying prospects in this draft Travis Hunter?

Hunter, the two-way star out of Colorado, is considered a generational talent, and his landing spot is still a mystery. The Titans (No. 1 pick) are reportedly leaning toward QB Cam Ward, while the Browns (No. 2 pick) could also be looking for a new signal-caller. That leaves the Giants sitting at No. 3, potentially in a prime position to scoop up Hunter.

Could the Giants Be the Perfect Fit?

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport seems to think so. He believes New York is the ideal landing spot for Hunter, where he could shine as both a cornerback and wide receiver.

The Giants have already made some big moves in both areas  adding Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson to their receiving corps while beefing up the secondary with Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo. But according to Davenport, there’s still room for a playmaker like Hunter:

“The Giants added Paulson Adebo in free agency, but the cornerback corps could still use help. So could the team’s wideouts behind Malik Nabers. This isn’t to say Hunter should be a full-time two-way player. Only that the Giants have a need at both spots he plays.”

Why Hunter Makes Sense for the Giants

Let’s face it  the Giants struggled in 2024. Their offense was near the bottom of the league, and their defense wasn’t much better, finishing dead last in interceptions with just five. Adding Hunter, who racked up nine career picks in college, could help turn things around.

On offense, pairing him with Nabers could create an explosive duo, no matter who’s throwing the football   Wilson, Winston, or even Tommy DeVito.

If Hunter is still on the board when the Giants are on the clock, should they take the chance? A playmaker like him doesn’t come around often, and New York might just be the team bold enough to unlock his full potential.
