Saban, who recently retired, joked that he felt like the “opening act” for a rock concert. “It’s a big moment for me,” he said, “but I feel like the warm-up band for The Rolling Stones.”
He congratulated the grads for all their hard work and reminded them that graduation isn’t the end — it’s just the beginning of what they can build for their future. He compared it to his first championship win with Alabama back in 2009, saying that milestone wasn’t the finish line but the starting point for more success.
Saban encouraged students to create their own legacy and be ready for new challenges and opportunities ahead. He also shared his famous philosophy, “The Process,” which is all about setting goals — but more importantly, figuring out what steps you need to take to reach them.
“It’s not about being better than someone else,” he said. “It’s about being the best version of yourself.”
He wrapped it up with some core values: stay disciplined, be kind, take responsibility, and always work for what you want. “You’ve got to earn it,” he told them.
