Why Stefon Diggs Shouldn’t Be on the Lions’ Radar
While the Detroit Lions are likely in the market for a reliable No. 3 wide receiver this offseason, Stefon Diggs is not the answer. While Diggs has proven himself as a productive receiver in the NFL, there are several reasons why he would be a poor fit for the Lions.
First, his recent history raises concerns. Diggs, who turns 32 this year, is coming off a torn ACL, and while he’s expected to be ready for training camp or Week 1, the injury could hinder his ability to perform at his usual level. In 2024, Diggs caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. However, his decline in speed and athleticism could be an issue moving forward, especially at his age.
More importantly, Diggs’ personality has often clashed with team dynamics. Known for his diva-like tendencies, he’s been a source of drama throughout his career. The Lions have a tightly-knit, blue-collar locker room under head coach Dan Campbell, and adding a high-maintenance player like Diggs could disrupt the team’s cohesion. The last thing the Lions need is a disgruntled star who isn’t getting enough targets.
Furthermore, Diggs doesn’t provide the type of role the Lions need in their offense. As a slot receiver, he doesn’t quite fit the mold of a No. 3 receiver on a team that needs a consistent, steady option rather than a splash-play threat. The Lions would be better served by targeting a wide receiver who can seamlessly fit into their system and provide depth without bringing off-field distractions.
In the end, the Lions are better off looking elsewhere for a wide receiver who can support Jared Goff without the baggage that Diggs would bring.
