Back-to-Back Brilliance: Lions RB Secures Another NFC Offensive Player of the Week Honor

Jahmyr Gibbs cements his rise as Detroit’s offensive engine with another award-worthy performance

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is no stranger to explosive plays, but this week he added another accolade to his rapidly growing résumé: his second NFC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season. After a scorching performance against the New York Giants, the former first-round pick continues to prove he’s evolving from a promising young talent into one of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons.

Gibbs Dominates Again in Lions’ Victory

Facing the Giants, Gibbs delivered the kind of all-purpose performance that leaves defenses gasping for answers. He tore through New York’s front for 219 rushing yards and two touchdowns, combining patience, vision, and blistering acceleration to repeatedly flip field position. As if that weren’t enough, he added 11 receptions for 45 yards and another touchdown, showcasing the versatility that has made him indispensable to Detroit’s offensive structure.

This latest outburst marks his second award-winning outing of the season, joining his Week 3 eruption against Washington where he posted 142 rushing yards on just 15 carries and three touchdowns.

A High-Octane Offense Built Around a High-IQ Playmaker

Detroit’s offense has leaned increasingly on Gibbs as injuries and shifts in personnel have reshaped the unit. Head coach Dan Campbell made it clear this week that Gibbs isn’t just productive—he’s trusted.

Campbell praised him extensively, saying, “He’s got some rare ability… he’s smart, he’s a football guy, he can retain a lot of information. I mean, we put a lot on him now… He can take all that on and knows all of it. Knows all those jobs, and it doesn’t slow him down.”

But the praise didn’t stop there. Campbell highlighted Gibbs’ natural feel for the game and his ability to create on the fly:
“He’s got instincts… unbelievable vision… he knows how to set up blocks, and then he’s got the explosiveness and speed to finish.”

With that combination of intelligence and athleticism, it’s no surprise Campbell concluded:
“How can you not use the guy and get him some touches? Get him a lot of touches?”

Detroit’s Award-Winning Offense Takes Shape

Gibbs isn’t the only Lion to bring home weekly honors this season. Quarterback Jared Goff also earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week recognition earlier this year after dropping 335 passing yards and five touchdowns on the Chicago Bears during Detroit’s home opener.

Together, Goff and Gibbs form the core of an offense that can attack in multiple ways and punish defenses that overcommit to stopping just one element. And as Gibbs continues to ascend, the Lions look increasingly capable of leaning on him both on the ground and through the air.

A Star Emerging at the Perfect Time

As Detroit pushes deeper into the season with playoff stakes rising, Gibbs’ evolution could not be better timed. His ability to impact the game from anywhere on the field gives the Lions a true matchup nightmare — and defenses are quickly learning they may need more than one plan to slow him down.

If his trajectory continues, Gibbs may not be done collecting awards — and Detroit may not be done surprising teams that underestimate just how dominant their young running back can be.
