Ben Johnson Brings Familiar Faces to Bears’ Coaching Staff
New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is wasting no time shaping his staff, and he’s bringing some familiar faces from Detroit. One of the most notable moves? Promoting J.T. Barrett to quarterbacks coach, putting him in charge of developing Caleb Williams, the projected No. 1 overall pick.
Barrett, a former Ohio State star, has quickly risen in the coaching ranks after starting as a low-level assistant with the Lions in 2022. His work under Dan Campbell and Johnson clearly left an impression, earning him a major role in Chicago.
The Bears also added Anthony Blevins (assistant special teams coach) and Matt Giordano (safeties coach), along with Oregon State’s Kyle DeVan as assistant offensive line coach. Johnson has chosen to keep some of Matt Eberflus’ former staff, ensuring continuity in certain areas.
With Johnson at the helm and a staff taking shape, the Bears are hoping to turn the page on recent struggles. Could this be the start of a new era in Chicago?
