The Chicago Bears have officially hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Reports from ESPN reveal the team is finalizing a deal with Johnson, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
The Lions’ tough loss on Saturday may have accelerated Johnson’s move, with speculation growing about his potential to take on a head coaching role elsewhere.
Over the next 24 hours, Johnson is expected to finalize his plans for in-person interviews, as shared in The Athletic’s “Scoop City” newsletter on Monday.
“So far, three teams — the Raiders, Bears, and Jaguars — have shown strong interest in him,” the newsletter stated. “That said, it’s possible Johnson won’t meet with all three, as he’s still figuring out his next steps. The Raiders, led by Tom Brady, are making a strong push to bring him in.”
