The Detroit Lions finished the season with an offense that struggled to put points on the board, averaging just 18.2 points per game—the lowest in the NFL.

Recently, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson gave fans a glimpse into his pregame routine. In a January 24 feature about the Chicago Bears, Johnson opened up about whether he follows any specific rituals before heading to the field.

“No. I really don’t,” he shared. “It’s not like I eat the same thing or anything. I get in the zone by listening to music, and I suppose the same songs on repeat. Right now, I’m on this Vance Joy kick. ‘Like Gold’ and ‘Georgia.’”

Vance Joy may be his current go-to, but it raises the question—no Metallica in the playlist? Really, Ben?

Anne Erickson, a seasoned journalist covering the NFL and college football for Heavy.com, penned the feature. With years of experience, Erickson has contributed to outlets like ESPN and Fox Sports, interviewing sports stars like Lions quarterback Jared Goff. She also hosts podcasts and is a Detroit-based radio personality.
