The Supreme Court just gave the green light to a Biden-era rule cracking down on ghost guns those DIY, untraceable firearms that law enforcement has been worried about.
In a 7-2 decision, the court ruled that these gun kits, which can be assembled in minutes and bought online without background checks, qualify as firearms under federal law. That means they now require serial numbers and background checks, just like regular guns sold by licensed dealers.
Conservative Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas weren’t on board, but the majority sided with the government’s argument that ghost guns fall under the 1968 Gun Control Act. The decision overturns a lower court ruling that had blocked the regulation.
This is a big win for gun control advocates and a major shift in how these easily accessible, unregulated firearms are treated under the law.
