From Overlooked Prospect to NFL Starter
Jones was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1997. Despite an impressive high school career, he wasn’t heavily recruited and initially committed to Princeton before walking on at Duke. After redshirting his freshman year, he got his chance to start and held onto the job for three seasons. While his college record wasn’t spectacular, he managed to lead Duke to multiple bowl games and even won MVP honors in each of them.

The New York Giants saw something in Jones and selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, despite many experts thinking they should have gone with Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins instead. Jones started as Eli Manning’s backup but took over as the starter just a few weeks into his rookie season.
