Big Money or Big Move? Jameson Williams’ Fifth-Year Option Price Confirmed

Lions Face Big Decision on Jameson Williams’ Fifth-Year Option

After a rollercoaster 2024 season, the Detroit Lions have a major financial decision to make regarding wide receiver Jameson Williams. The former first-round pick is eligible for a fifth-year option, and the price tag for 2026 is now set at $15.493 million.

Williams took a significant step forward last season, showing flashes of his elite speed and playmaking ability. However, off-the-field issues—including a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy—complicated the narrative. Still, Dan Campbell has remained a strong supporter of Williams, praising his growth and resilience throughout the year.

The Lions have until May 1 to decide on the option. While a long-term extension remains a possibility, it’s not as clear-cut as it is for Aidan Hutchinson, whose own fifth-year option is valued at $19.872 million. If the Lions opt for a wait-and-see approach, picking up Williams’ option allows them to evaluate his development for another season before committing to a bigger contract.

Given his potential and Detroit’s high-powered offense, the Lions will likely secure Williams’ fifth year. The real question is: Will he prove himself worthy of a long-term deal?
