Gophers basketball recruit Jacob Ross has decided to reopen his recruitment and asked to be let out of his letter of intent, according to his high school coach. Ross, a 6-6 forward from SoCal Academy in California, was part of the 2025 class that signed under former Gophers head coach Ben Johnson. However, after Johnson was fired and replaced by Niko Medved, Ross is now exploring other options.
Medved, who took over as head coach earlier this week, said he plans to reach out to the recruits who had signed under Johnson to discuss their future with the program. Medved also mentioned that NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals could play a role in the recruits’ decisions.
Along with Ross, the Gophers also recently lost four players to the transfer portal, including senior guard Brennan Rigsby, who joined other transfers like Frank Mitchell and Kadyn Betts. However, freshmen Isaac Asuma and Grayson Grove confirmed they will return for next season.
Ross’s decision to reopen his recruitment is a part of the ongoing transition as Medved takes the reins and reshapes the team for next season.
