4 Teams That Should Be Calling the Bills About a James Cook Trade
The Buffalo Bills have been busy locking down their core players this offseason, but one key name is still waiting for an extension running back James Cook. While he’s been a reliable piece of the offense, the Bills may not be willing (or able) to meet his asking price of $15 million per year.
If they’re not planning to extend him, trading Cook before he hits free agency makes a lot of sense. Here are four teams that should be picking up the phone ASAP.
1. Dallas Cowboys
If there’s a team desperate for a reliable running back, it’s the Cowboys. Their ground game has been shaky, and while they added Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, neither screams “game-changer.” Cook could give Dallas the boost they need to take pressure off Dak Prescott and balance the offense.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders finished dead last in rushing yards last season yikes. They brought in Raheem Mostert, but at this point in his career, he’s more of a complementary piece than a true workhorse. If Vegas wants to help newly acquired QB Geno Smith succeed (and take some pressure off his arm), Cook would be a perfect fit.
3. Tennessee Titans
The Titans need all the help they can get, and while they have Tony Pollard, Cook would be an instant upgrade. If they draft a rookie quarterback potentially Miami’s Cam Ward having a strong running game could make his transition much smoother. New GM Mike Borgonzi, who came from the Chiefs, should know just how dangerous a back like Cook can be.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh made a splash by trading for D.K. Metcalf, but who’s throwing him the ball? Their QB situation is up in the air, and the run game isn’t exactly set in stone either. Jaylen Warren is solid, and they added Kenneth Gainwell, but Cook would provide the kind of dynamic threat the Steelers need, especially if they’re rolling with a young or unproven QB.
Bottom line? If the Bills aren’t keeping Cook, these teams should be lining up to grab him.
