Golden State’s newest star makes an immediate impact in dominant win
Jimmy Butler’s arrival in Golden State was one of the biggest mid-season moves in the NBA, and his debut on Saturday night didn’t disappoint. The Warriors’ newest star made an instant impact, helping his team secure a dominant 132-111 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
While the basketball world was eager to see how Butler would fit alongside Steph Curry and company, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan had a particularly insightful take on Butler’s performance.
Donovan Praises Butler’s Work Ethic and Competitiveness
After the game, Donovan shared his thoughts on Butler’s debut, emphasizing the veteran’s relentless work ethic.
“I don’t know him [Jimmy Butler] at all,” Donovan admitted. “I would imagine, at least from what I’ve heard of him, the guy was probably in the gym all day long working out and getting ready even though he wasn’t able to play and he was waiting for this.”
Donovan continued, praising Butler’s signature intensity. “I’m not surprised, you know, with his competitiveness and him coming ready to play. That’s the one thing that I’ve always heard about him is that he’s an incredible worker, and obviously his competitiveness shows.”
Warriors Flip the Script in the Second Half
Butler’s impact was felt throughout the game, but the Warriors initially struggled. The Bulls jumped out to a massive 83-59 lead with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter, putting Golden State on the ropes.
Then, the Warriors flipped a switch. Behind Butler’s 25 points on 7-12 shooting and Curry’s offensive brilliance, Golden State closed the game on a staggering 73-28 run, completely dismantling Chicago in the final stretch.
What Butler Brings to Golden State
Both the Warriors and Bulls entered the game sitting in 10th place in their respective conferences, fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, if Butler’s debut is any indication, Golden State may have found the spark they needed to make a serious push in the second half of the season.
