The New York Giants have been a mess for a while now, and according to NFL insider Mike Florio, the blame falls squarely on team owner John Mara. Since their last Super Bowl win in 2011, the Giants have only made the playoffs twice and are coming off a brutal 3-14 season. Fans are frustrated, and some are even calling for Mara to sell the team.
Florio: “The Dysfunction Starts at the Top”
Florio didn’t hold back when talking about Mara’s leadership, especially after the Giants signed quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal worth up to $16 million. He believes Mara meddles too much in football decisions, putting unnecessary pressure on the front office and coaching staff.
“The problem is the dysfunction flows from the top,” Florio said. “John Mara has been the common thread. I don’t know how they won two championships this century… He’s fired guys too quickly, held on to the wrong guys too long, and now he needs to stick to his decisions.”
Florio thinks the Giants should either commit to head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen for the next two seasons or should’ve fired them already. If New York has another disastrous year, their jobs could be on the line.
What’s Next for the Giants?
With the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants have a big decision to make. Do they take a shot at a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward? And if they do, will that rookie get the nod over Winston?
One thing is clear: The Giants need to turn things around fast. With the Eagles and Commanders expected to lead the NFC East, New York will be fighting just to stay out of last place. If Mara keeps interfering, though, the struggles may continue.
