Blue-Collar Bond: Dan Campbell Says Detroit ‘Fits Me Like a Glove’

It’s not every day a head coach sounds like a guy who just found the one. But when Dan Campbell talks about Detroit, it’s clear—this is more than just a coaching gig. It’s home.

The Detroit Lions’ fearless leader joined Dallas radio station 96.7 The Ticket this week and essentially poured his heart out. In the most Dan Campbell way possible, he let everyone know he’s not looking for the exit—he’s chasing a legacy.

“It Fits Me Like a Glove”

“I belong here. It fits,” Campbell told the hosts. “From the ownership to the city to the field, the location, the fans… the blue-collar attitude of this city, it’s just perfect.”

You could practically hear Motor City nodding in agreement. Grit, grind, resilience—everything Campbell preaches, Detroit embodies. It’s hard to imagine a better culture fit in all of football.

Praise for Sheila Hamp: “Just Be Yourself”

Campbell didn’t stop there. He sang the praises of Lions owner Sheila Hamp, who, according to him, gives him the trust and freedom every coach dreams of.

“When you’ve got an owner who just tells you, ‘Do whatever you need to do, and I’ll get you whatever you need to have success,’ it changes everything,” Campbell said. “I don’t have to worry about what I look like, what I say, I’m just me.”

And honestly? That raw authenticity has been the engine behind Detroit’s rise. It’s what’s turned the Lions into real contenders—and what’s made Campbell a cult hero across the city.

Staying Put (With a Catch)

Campbell made it clear—he loves Detroit, and he isn’t looking to leave. “I love the gig I’m at, and I have no plans of leaving,” he said.

But he added one little caveat: “We’ve got to win one.”
As in, a Super Bowl.

And if you know Dan Campbell, you know he won’t rest until he gets it—and maybe another after that.

Built to Last

With long-term extensions signed for both Campbell and GM Brad Holmes through 2027, this isn’t just a feel-good story. It’s a plan in motion. One built on belief, trust, and a relentless commitment to building something real in Detroit.

Dan Campbell’s heart is clearly in this city. Now, he just wants to bring home a ring to match.
